Hello, First I would like to Thank you for taking the time to read our puppy page.
We love our dogs very much and no matter if its our whippets or our greyhounds we are protective of them and so very careful as to where we let them go.
A little about myself, I have been a member of Dogs Victoria for over 13 years now.
I enjoy Lure Coursing and Conformation Showing. In saying that all my dogs are our loving pets as well.
I have been involved in dogs for most of my life, starting when i was only 12 helping my mother. My mother is who taught me my ethics and love of animals.
Before i moved to Australia I did rescue for years, with both domestic and exotic animals. I also had some fun with obedience and did dog sledding for many years....It was fantastic!
My dogs are my life and i look to find puppy people who will love them as i do.
We do not have our dogs in kennels, they are in the house with us or in big yards with room to play.
Whippets:
Whippets are a lean muscular athletic dog with an aerodynamically designed body. Their coats are fine and short and they are very clean dogs. They balance muscular strength and power with grace and elegance being built for speed and work. They are both working or racing dogs as well as ideal companions. They are sweet-natured and docile, yet playful and athletic. The same dog who will curl up under the blankets; a perfect couch potato, sleeping for hours... will tear enthusiastically around the yard, darting and zigzagging and turning on a dime without slowing down.
Whippets love running games and require short bursts of vigorous exercise each day. The area must be fenced, for this racy breed is the fastest dog of his weight: he can run up to 35 mph.
Whippet puppies can sometimes be mischievous and destructive, but adults are calm, undemanding, and unobtrusive indoors, trotting around with a light-footed easy grace and seldom making a peep. They do insist on the luxury of being up on the furniture, so if this offends you, you shouldn't consider a sighthound.
Polite with strangers, the Whippet should be accustomed to people and noises at an early age. Whippets are mildly stubborn, but also very sensitive. They respond favourably only to calm, upbeat training methods that emphasize praise and food.
Grooming needs:
A Whippet's coat only needs to be brushed with a hound mitt or soft brush once per week to remove loose hair and keep the coat healthy. They only require bathing as needed. The thin coat of the Whippet does not protect well against cuts and scrapes, so he may be more prone to minor skin injuries than other breeds. Be sure to clean all wounds, even minor wounds, to prevent infection. They also feel the cold so warm coats for winter is a must.
OUR PUPPIES....
Any homes applying for our beautiful puppies will be asked many questions so be prepared....
For the safety of our precious puppies/adults our whippets are put onto Limited Register
(This means they are not for exhibition *showing*, breeding or export from Australia).
Only puppies/adults going to show homes will be on Main Register, allowed to be bred from or exported.
This means that those going to pet homes will be de-sexed BEFORE they leave our house, depending on their age at the time they leave or on a de-sexing contract if they are too young. Our whippets and greyhounds mean a great deal to us so we take every precaution we can to make sure that they do not end up in the wrong hands. Their welfare is always first priority when choosing their new homes.
ONLY approved show homes will get puppies fully entire and able to be bred from.
Puppies are able to go to their new homes between 10-12 weeks of age.
We take care to make sure our puppies have the best start to their life and expect that their new owners will love them as much as we do.
All of our puppies are reared in the house (they are born in our lounge room) and stay there until 8 weeks of age. They grow up meeting everyone and hearing all the noises of a normal house hold, such as vacuums, TV's, radio's ect... They learn how to socialize properly with our older dogs as well.
Before our puppies go to their new homes we begin their teachings on a lead and start house training, crate training and car riding.
When they are ready to go to their new homes they will leave with a bag of food (if picked up from us), a booklet of information for the new owners, a blanket, some toys, treats, their own lead and collar set.
All our puppies are micro chipped, vaccinated and regularly wormed and vet checked.
We also offer our lifetime support for all of our dogs and will always be there to help them and their owners anytime.
If there is a problem that we do not have an answer for we will strive to do our best to help you find it.
Our babies are raised only on fresh human grade meat and Royal Canin.
